Names include H.E.R., Jasmine Sullivan, Wiz Kid, and a long list of others. As an avid BET viewer and fan of their award shows in general, I’ve always found it exciting to predict who the winners will be in advance. Sometimes I’m wrong, but occasionally I hit the nail right on the head. Here are my predictions for the 2021 BET Soul Train Awards, airing on November 28th.

Album of the Year

Blxt — No Love Lost

Doja Cat — Planet Her

Giveon — When It’s All Said and Done…Take Time

H.E.R. — Back of My Mind

Jazmine Sullivan — Heaux Tales

Wizkid — Made in Lagos

Photo by Travis Yewell on Unsplash

I predict that Jazmine Sullivan will take home that award this year. Doja Cat’s Planet Her did great on a mainstream level, but I don’t see her winning this Soul Train award over Jazmine. Heaux Tales debut at №1 on the Top R&B albums chart. You also have to consider the fact that she hasn’t released music in over six years. Heaux Tales also peaked №4 on the Billboard 200. This number four spot is her highest-charting position in the history of her career.

Back up Predictions?

If Jazmine Sullivan doesn’t take home the Album of the Year award, I believe Giveon will. Other than Jazmine Sullivan, it’s been Giveon’s year. We also have to remember that he is relatively a new artist, considering that he achieved many of his “firsts” last year.

Song of the Year

Blxst feat. It’s been noted that “Essence” is the first-ever Nigerian song to hit the Billboard Hot 100 charts. This accomplishment alone is something to be celebrated. I also love that Wizkid chose Tems to sing on this track. Many of us were intrigued by her vocals after listening to “Essence” for the first time. Her deep sultry vocals had everyone questioning who the mystery woman was.

Back up Predictions?

If by chance “Essence” does not take home the win, I believe H.E.R. will. “Damage reached №1 on Billboards Adult R&B Airplay charts. Besides all technical reasons, “Damage” happens to be my personal favorite on the list.

Video of the Year

Silk Sonic — “Leave the Door Open”

Chris Brown, Young Thug feat. Out of all the nominees, “Leave the Door Open”has the highest views on their official video. Also, the release of this video is what started the craze that is Silk Sonic.

Back up Predictions?

If Silk Sonic doesn’t take home the Video of the Year award, H.E.R most definitely has a chance in snatching it.
